The resolutions were contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the joint meeting of the Northern Nigeria Governors’ Forum and the Northern Traditional Rulers’ Council, held at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House in Kaduna. The meeting, chaired by the Chairman of the Northern Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, focused exclusively on the worsening security situation in Northern Nigeria and explored practical measures to restore peace and stability. The Forum commended Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his administration’s efforts in addressing insecurity nationwide and pledged continued collaboration with federal security agencies through improved intelligence sharing and stronger community resilience. The governors and traditional rulers also welcomed the ongoing constitutional process for the establishment of state police, praising the President and the National Assembly for advancing the initiative. They expressed confidence that well-trained and properly equipped state police would significantly improve the fight against insecurity. The meeting also expressed confidence in the newly inaugurated Board of Trustees of the Northern Nigeria Security Trust Fund, urging members to discharge their responsibilities with integrity, fairness, and independence. The Forum further commended member states for fulfilling their commitment to contribute one billion naira monthly to the Security Trust Fund and called on all states to sustain their financial obligations while encouraging traditional rulers, civil society organisations, the media, and citizens to support the Fund’s activities. On addressing the root causes of insecurity, the Forum stressed the need for greater investment in education, agriculture, youth empowerment, job creation, and skills acquisition, noting that poverty, unemployment, illiteracy, and the growing number of out-of-school children continue to fuel instability across the region. With the rainy season underway, the meeting urged governments and security agencies to provide adequate protection for farmers, prevent conflicts between farming and pastoral communities, and support livestock transformation initiatives aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence and boosting agricultural productivity. The Forum also resolved
to expand regional collaboration beyond security by developing a unified framework to address common challenges in education, agriculture, and healthcare through shared resources, technical expertise, and coordinated development efforts. The meeting concluded with an agreement to reconvene on a date to be announced later.
